Beirut Cello Ensemble was conceived in Beirut in 2016 by Cellist Roger A-Smith. It is the first official cello ensemble to be established in Lebanon, first to familiarize the Lebanese audience about this large string instrument that most resembles the human voice, and second to highlight the wide range of expressions covered by the cello. During its concerts, Beirut Cello Ensemble will focus on showcasing these ranges away from the usual conception that the cello is mostly an accompaniment instrument. The repertoire will cover a vast array of music genres from classical to pop, rock, and commercial where each piece will be presented in an interesting music arrangement. Beirut Cello Ensemble gathers professional and amateur cellists residing in Lebanon, and will also be working on establishing its children cello ensemble.
