Music-A 'Sodaf Beirut' at Mahashivratri india 2024: A Celebration of Rhythm and Culture
On the 8th of March 2024, Music-A once again had the honor of presenting "Sodaf Beirut - صُدف بيروت" to perform at the Mahashivratri Festival hosted by Isha Foundation at the iconic Isha Yoga Center in India. This marked our second invitation, following our debut in 2020, and we were thrilled to be part of this incredible celebration once again. Mahashivratri, one of the most spiritual and visually captivating events, attracts millions of viewers from all over the world.
In 2020, Music-A's full band, Sodaf Beirut - صُدف بيروت, had the privilege of opening the night’s festivities, introducing Lebanese rhythms and melodies to the international audience. This year, the spotlight was on our talented percussionists. The percussion section of Sodaf Beirut proudly represented Lebanese oriental music with a mesmerizing showcase of traditional Lebanese percussions and rhythms. Our performance was a vibrant cultural exchange, presenting the rich heritage of Lebanon to a global audience on this significant occasion.
With 1 million live attendees at the Isha Yoga Center and an astounding 100 million viewers through TV broadcasts and live streaming, the 2024 Mahashivratri event reached a record-breaking audience—surpassing even the Grammy Awards of the same year. It was truly humbling to know that our performance resonated with such a vast audience, across both India and the world.
Our percussionists captivated the crowd with a series of traditional Lebanese rhythms, using instruments such as the Tabla, Riq, Katem, and the famous Darboukas. Their performance added an energetic, oriental flair to the night, paying homage to Lebanon's musical traditions. The vibrant drumming echoed through the venue, blending seamlessly with the spiritual atmosphere of Mahashivratri.
This magical night at the feet of the Adiyogi Statue was not just a performance, but a celebration of unity and spirituality. Sharing the stage with renowned international and Indian artists, our musicians were honored to be part of such a transcendent festival.
As always, the hospitality and energy at the Isha Yoga Center were unparalleled. The event continues to grow, not only in scale but in its ability to connect people through the universal language of music and art. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of it, representing Lebanon and sharing our love for music with the world.
Upon returning to Lebanon, Sodaf Beirut’s performance was celebrated on MTV Lebanon and other major news outlets, further cementing the band's role in showcasing Lebanese culture on the global stage.
